United Nations Volunteers (UNV) has been an active partner in the development of Viet Nam for more than 17 years. In 1990, the first international UN volunteer arrived in Viet Nam to take an assignment as a trainer for the Ministry of Education and Training. More than 420 UN volunteers have since served with a whole range of host organisations offering technical expertise in sectors as varied as environmental protection and database management. Through the UNV Programme, Vietnamese volunteers also share their knowledge, skills and experience in the country and in the region. During the past eight years, UNV has implemented development projects such as Information Technology and English Training for Employment for Former Drug Users, Enhancing Volunteer Contributions in Achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Youth Volunteers in Cultural Heritage Preservation and 2 projects through the MDG Small Grant Facilities.
